Gene editing directly within a human for the first time

Here’s some more progress on the gene editing front.

In most cases (as per my previous post), gene editing is done outside of the body. This one, however, seems to be the first time (in the US at least) where the gene editing is being done directly inside a human. Rather than using the CRISPR method, this example used ‘zinc finger nucleases’ to deliver a genetic cure for a metabolic disease called Hunter syndrome.

Exciting times and (hopefully) another truly meaningful improvement to someone’s life.
