This linked article explores some of the likely convergence between Augmented Reality and other emergent technologies like the Internet of Things.
The primary message is to not under-estimate the future impact of Augmented Reality or how quickly it will scale value.
My example would be this; don’t just think about how AR might overlay TV screens on your walls, and instead anticipate more explosive change to the distribution of people and the future workforce.
Augmented work environments could fundamentally reduce the need to be in a particular physical place. Younger generations (in particular) might choose to permanently avoid a city life with unaffordable housing and instead spread out across pleasant country or coastal areas while holding cutting edge jobs. There would be widespread impacts and opportunities across a range of services – logistics, education, transportation, and a many many more.
We shall see.
