Open source self-driving software

This is intriguing – in amongst the usual car vendors and tech giants creating self-driving software, there are emerging open source / after-market varieties.

‘OpenPilot’ is the name of the (seemingly) leading open source software. It was open-sourced a few weeks ago by an outfit named ‘comma.ai’.

This reminds me of the world of drones, where proprietary flight control software (e.g. from DJI) effectively competes with comparable open source flight control software + hardware (Ardupilot/Arducopter).

This open source driving software is claimed to be roughly as good as Tesla’s, and available to install on Hondas and Acuras for now.
